Susan

Kia ora, I am Susan and together with my husband Mark we have owned Acorn Meadows since 2010.  Prior to this I was an at home mum to Joshua and Sarah and it was because of this that I decided to become a teacher.  I was a home-educator while studying and prior to owning the centre.  My passion is young children and there is never a day when I do not want to come to work – children are magical and they always manage to brighten up the dull days and put a smile on my face.

Liz

Kia ora, my name is Elizabeth but please call me Liz.  I was born in Vietnam and arrived in New Zealand when I was 8 years old.  I am married and have two grown up daughters.  My first connection with Acorn Meadows began when I was a volunteer in 2010.  I spent two years with Acorn Meadows as a volunteer teacher and  I am so glad to be back in the centre where my teaching journey began.  I love working with children and enjoy building wonderful friendships with them as well as their families.  Young children are amazing and I am privileged to be working with them to support them in their learning and development.

I get my enthusiasm of working with younger children from my mother, as I helped her in looking after my younger brother. I have completed a Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) from New Zealand Tertiary College. I enjoy working with younger children because I find them to be a bundle of fun and energy. I believe as a teacher I can help nurture and scaffold their beautiful learning journey.

Melissa

Kia ora, my name is Melissa. I have a teenage son and live locally. My teaching journey extends from a Bachelor of Arts, which led to a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) gained at the University of Auckland. I completed my second practicum here at Acorn Meadows in 2012 and have been relieving here on and off, until becoming a permanent staff member in 2015.I am enthusiastic and passionate about early childhood education. I believe that children learn through play and through their interactions with others. I see learning stories as a way of documenting your child’s learning, but also as a tool that empowers them. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed creating them for you.

Helen

Ni Hao. My name is Helen and I’m the cook at Acorn Meadows. I’m so happy to have been given the opportunity to work with this friendly team. My job is to provide the children with healthy and nutritional food with a delicious taste. After the Food Safety and Nutritional training (H.E.A.T), it has helped me develop a further understanding of the importance of food nutrition and hygiene and this has been incorporated daily while preparing the meals for the children. My highlight every day at work has to be the moment when the children finish their meals and tell me “Thank you for cooking us yummy food!” I enjoy my time at Acorn Meadows and love cooking up new recipes.
